Project Cargo

Project Cargo

Out-of-gauge and heavy-lift cargo for mining, energy and construction projects: route surveys, abnormal-load permits, escorts and delivery to site.

Big, heavy and to a remote site

Project cargo is everything a standard container can't carry: mining trucks and crushers, transformers, wind turbine parts, steel structures and complete processing plants. CFA Logistics plans and runs these moves from the port of loading to the final site in Tanzania, Kenya and the neighbouring countries, for the mining and energy, oil and gas, renewable energy and construction industries.

How we run a project move

  1. Planning: dimensions, weights and lifting points of every piece; the right mode for each (break-bulk, flat rack, ro-ro or container).
  2. Route survey: bridges, road widths, overhead lines and turning points between the port and the site, checked before the cargo ships.
  3. Permits: abnormal-load permits from the road authorities (TANROADS in Tanzania, KeNHA in Kenya) and police escorts where required.
  4. Port operations: discharge, heavy-lift cranes and customs clearing at Dar es Salaam or Mombasa.
  5. Transport and delivery: low-beds and specialised trailers, escorted, to the site; offloading coordinated with your site team.

Why it matters who plans it

A single oversized piece can hold up a whole project. Most delays come from things that could have been checked in advance: a permit applied for too late, a bridge that can't take the axle load, missing customs documents. We plan around those before the cargo leaves the factory.

Common questions

What counts as an abnormal load in Tanzania?

Loads that exceed the legal limits for width, height, length or axle weight need a permit and often an escort. We assess every piece and apply for the permits as part of the move.

Can you handle the whole project, not just the heavy pieces?

Yes. We combine the heavy lifts with the containers, spare parts and consumables for the same project under one plan, using our sea freight, clearing and warehousing services.
